Default The Fatherless and the Widows

James 1:26-27 If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion is in vain. Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, to visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.

There are two topics of interest to me in the above passage. First....Before God and the Father. Before seeing that I never considered them to be separate. Father, Son and Holy Spirit are all God but not all are the Father. Jesus never referred to The Father as "God." Now I know why.

Two....We are to "visit the fatherless and widows." We could certainly take this literally and help all orphans and widows but this is speaking of the fatherless as those being without The Father guiding them. And the widows are those without Christ for to them He is dead.
Psalm 94:5-7 They break in pieces thy people, O LORD, and afflict thine heritage. They slay the widow and the stranger, and murder the fatherless. Yet they say, The LORD shall not see, neither shall the God of Jacob regard it.

Isaiah 1:17 Learn to do well; seek judgment, relieve the oppressed, judge the fatherless, plead for the widow.
We are to visit the fatherless and widows with His Word...bringing them to the Lord, to their Father, to their Husband.

Whirlwind, I'd like to know how you manage to change this part of the scripture to mean those without christ when you have previously stated that the orphans and widows mentioned are literal. I think you are trying to stretch scripture to met your message.

Its an interesting thought, and one I have not pondered before,,,,reasonably sure it's not going to be earth-shattering whether it is literal or symbolic .

Can you explain what you mean please BHG by stretching scripture ? can you define the quotes Whirlwind uses for us ?
Let there be peace on earth and let it begin with me. ....................

    Did I change Scripture?

There are different levels of understanding in His Word. On one level it refers to literal widows and orphans and we should certainly help them. The other level is understanding that the orphans and widows without a father or husband are without The Father or our Husband Christ. There is no "stretching," simply going a bit deeper.

You're quite right Canny...not at all earth-shattering but I found it interesting. Especially seeing the separation in, "before God and the Father." I have never noticed that before.

Orphans are those without fathers. Lost souls are those without The Father.

Widows are those that were married but their husband is now dead. Christ is our husband and He lives...we are not widows.

We are to go to those that don't have our Father and to those that may have once believed (were married to Him) but are now alone and lost....without Christ...widows.
