Default Question the writers about scripture ?

Question the writers about scripture ?
Recently in a discussion on James I felt that a lot of answeres can be gained in our interpreting of scriptures if we were to question the writers of scripture, with, "Why was this written ?" or" What question are you answering here ?" and or many simmilar questions. Because of this I am starting this thread to see if you have and what answer's you have got that have made scripture clearer as a result !
Here is what I found in James
I think if we use our immagination as to why James was saying this. Implied in his letter is that some were saying that they had faith, but would not even lift a finger to help a brother or sister in any way. Or at least something like that. Even apart from James we would be able to say that although they professed faith, their actions denied it. James is saying in effect if you are an apple tree you should bear apples. Actions can confirm, or or deny what I say or profess.. They are in themselves not nessesary, but acompany.
Col 2:8 -10 Beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ. For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily; and you are complete in Him, who is the head of all principality and power.

do you know how jesus called 2 of his followers boangers.?ie sons of thunder.to me this is refrence to the flock which were not his own,or visa versa.i then can see why scripture is written in a double meaning to his followers,1 sell all etc,2 servant to have wealth etc.
it has to be a double meaning for 2 sets of diffrent people.
but he does say his servents are not greater than himself.
we will be 1 fold and 1 sheppard.
when its time people will understand the reasons why.

I agree with you're interpretation Owen.

I like the style of his writing and sometimes I get the impression it's not so much a letter but a book of proverbs, but thats just what I see personally, others may disgaree.
I also think there are many similarites to the Sermon on the Mount.

In Jewish society at the time there was a gulf between rich and poor. The saducees were very wealthy and made money from trade and farming.
In other groups in the same society widows and orphans are particularly neglected and the anger among the poor is as much against the saducees as it is against the romans.
But James seems so wise and knows that it's not violence and vengence that will save the world, it is the word of God. James 3:17-18

He could be speaking of rich Jews or rich Jewish Christians but in my opinion he's saying the same thing, they will show their true selves by the way they care for the poor, even challenging those who have grown rich by exploiting the poor, James 5:1-6.

I like James and his wisdom, the way he seems to apply the Gospel principals in a very practical, down to earth way.
I happen to think Jesus would be very proud of him.

"I happen to think Jesus would be very proud of him."
I hope HE has no pride at all !
Well we know HE dosn't !
