Good to see you smiling again canny
Col 2:8 -10 Beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ. For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily; and you are complete in Him, who is the head of all principality and power.

We should all be certain as to weather we really are Christ’s disciples
2 Cor 13:5 (KJV) Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?
Do we ? Do we really examine ourselves in order to prove ourselves ? Just believing is not enough, for even the demons believe !
James 2:19 (KJV) Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble
Some will live out their lives believing that all is well and that they do the work of Christ, only to hear these awful words
Matt 7:23 (KJV) And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
They thought they were safe ! They would have, and in fact did bet their life on the fact that they were safe, but they receive from our Lord this awful indictment ending with that awful judgement
Matt 7:21-23 (KJV)Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? 23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
Are you sure ? Will you be safe in that day ? What Scriptures are you holding on to in order to prove yourseves ?
This is not a contest, just a nudge, in order that we may not perish !
Just posting this again to get on topic

I love ol Jim Reeves, but I find it rather a romantic idea, and I wonder often if Jim Reeves would be able to compose (if he did) if living on the streets.

When Paul says examine yourself in Chapter 13 he is referring to what he has previously spoken of and if you return to Chapter 11 and begin in verse 2 you will begin to see what the context is ,wherever Paul preached the message of Salvation through grace by faith alone ,immediately false teachers followed preaching "another gospel"and the saints are being deceived by this false teaching ,now you must read on to find Paul portrait of these deceivers ,false apostles and deceitful workers ,and describes them as satans ministers transformed as ministers of righteousness .What Paul is preaching of the Gospel of grace and the Christ life living in each believer ,and when he tells us to examine ourselves ,it is to examine whether we still hold true to the gospel of grace by the blood and the cross ,and not on sin because when we look at the love of that salvation then we will glory not in what we do but how we are and who is to be glorified and that is our savior Christ Jesus

Thanks Owen, always does us good to be challenged by scripture and examine our motives and the journey we are making. Timing very appropriate too.
