Thumbs up Instruced by a robin!

This may seem silly but I decided to start with this one. It is proof God uses unusual methods to get our attention so He can teach us.

______I Kings 17:4 & 6 “And it shall be, that you shall drink of the brook; and I have COMMANDED the ravens to feed you there.” The birds obeyed Him. We know that story. Do we question it?

In Ecclesiastes 10:20 we have: “Curse not the king, no not in your thought; and curse not the rich in your bedchamber for a bird of the air shall carry the voice, and that which has wings shall tell the matter.” Don’t even THINK of cursing the king nor curse the rich OUT LOUD in your bedroom. It is better not to curse at all. The bird shall tell on you. Nothing is kept secret. God alone knows all the secrets.

Both these scriptures seemed unreal to me although in Luke 1:37 it says “For with God nothing shall be impossible.” This was about two pregnant woman; one a young woman, a virgin, who gave birth to a child. The other was an old woman, way past the age to be able to have a child. Yet God made it possible for both women.

God created us. He created the birds and all living creatures. If He wants to use them to do His will, who are we to say that it is impossible! Three times I have experienced the presence of God in the form of a bird. The first time, you can read about it in the article “The Loving Presence of God.” When I was at a low point and felt I was all alone, God sent a big sea gull to let me know I was never alone.

Second time, I had a chance to put some writings on another site. The owner wanted me to use my own name. I was kind of afraid to do so. I didn’t want the whole world to know it for personal reasons. I was debating about it as I was standing near the river waiting for my daughter to pick me up.

Suddenly, it got dark over my head. I looked up. Just above me was a huge dark bird. An eagle, turkey buzzard or a hawk---I don’t know---never saw any close enough to know. I had been told there was a bald eagle’s nest near my area. They didn’t want it to be known just where. They might have tried to capture it or even killed it.

This time God was letting me know not to be afraid to use my own name. He would protect me. Psalm 37:7 “How excellent is your loving kindness, O God! Therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of your wings.” God used a physical thing to teach me a spiritual truth. I was standing under the shadow of that large bird’s wings.

Just a few days ago, a little tiny robin gave me a message. I was having computer trouble for about a week. Especially trying to get my word processor and printer re-installed. I needed those two the most.I was getting quite frustrated. I am a technical-minded illiterate. I hated to ask for help. I didn’t want any one to know I couldn’t understand what they were telling me to do. It all flies over my head.

I glance at the instruction books and go on punching buttons, hoping they are the right ones. Of course I really get things messed up. I kept going around in circles hoping for a miracle. I wanted to buy a new WP program, costing $99, thinking it would solve one problem. I did not jump in immediately and order it on the internet. It was just like God was telling me to wait. Waiting is not my best point.

I did tell someone the problems I was having. He said he would send his brother over to look at it. Both programs were on CD’s. My server suggested I might be having driver problems. The man never called. He was sick for a few days. I know now that God had held him back. I had a lesson to learn and a test to trust God more. I was also to learn to be more careful and not go into anything so haphazardly. Pay more attention to instructions. Don’t skip anything. He wanted me to conquer it.

I was getting pretty disgusted with me. I had to get away. I went to my favorite bench by the river. Just about 2 feet away was a little robin sitting on a tree stump, chirping away merrily. First he made 5 short chirps. I kind of whistled the same 5 chirps.

He cocked his head and looked at me; amazed I think. He chirped the same five again. I followed him once more and also the third time. I was really getting into this. But he fooled me. He only made 4 chirps the next time. I caught this and did the same.

It was unusual because I don’t pay much attention to details. I miss a lot because of this flaw. We finished the same tune with 3 more sets of 5 chirps. It most likely sounds ridiculous to you---a grown woman conversing and singing with a mere bird. I hoped nobody was listening. But my spirit knew there was an important message in that exchange.

I went back to the computer quite refreshed. I am one who doesn’t give up. Usually the fault is one little item I have missed. I put my printer CD back in. This time I got the instruction page out and read every word. One word, “CANCEL”,is what made me go around in circles.

It said if I saw a certain image, which I did but ignored it, I was to click on “cancel”. I clicked “next” instead. My reasoning told me if I hit cancel, I’d be done. I hit it anyway and the rest of the installing went smoothly. The printer works just fine.

The message from the bird---Pay more attention to instructions---don’t leave anything out. (When I caught the change in the number of chirps, I had learned to concentrate.) Don’t let my own reasoning rule. It gets me in trouble every time. When I learn this lesson in everyday situations, then I will pay more attention to God’s instructions. One word often makes a difference in our understanding. We can’t obey God if we don’t understand that EVERY word He speaks is important.

When I tried to install the WP, I got an error message saying part of the program was messed up. I would get only so far and the whole computer blacked out. Installation could not be completed. I gave up and went to bed.

The next morning I hit a button. I don't know what all I did next but the whole WP program was showing!!! It had to be a miracle. God fixed it while I was sleeping. It’s working better than before. Nothing is impossible with God.

Pay attention and trust God. This is what a little bird told me. Like Elijah and his experience with God in I Kings 19:11-13. The Lord was not in the earthquake, nor the fire “and after the fire, a still small voice, And it was so when Elijah heard it”.

When we are tuned into God, like I was with that little robin, we will hear God’s still small voice and obey Him. He tells us what we need to live a godly life in His service. Listen to Him. God bless you.

    Default Good One...

Love your analogies, showing how the living written Word always dictates how we are to respond in His Spirit.

    Great stuff!

    God bless,

I missed this thread when it was first posted. That's a great testimony, GD, of how God can speak to his people even through the little things.
