Paul describes us as the wild olive shoot that is grafted in to share the rich root of the (cultivated) olive tree, and says the root supports us. (Rom 11:17-18)

So we have Jewish roots, which we share with Jews. That Jewish root supports us so it is relevant to us.

Romans 11:17:18 refers to Jesus as the root, not Jews. So, why do you reference it here? So-called Jews very much the opposite of support us. Furthermore, it is an obvious fiction that people who call themselves Jews today are Jews.

Here are three Protestant commentaries that I have access to.

The wild olive tree is the Gentile Christians. The olive tree refers to Israel, those who inherited the promises of the Abrahamic covenant (see Gen. 12:1, 2; 17:7, 8; see also Hos. 14:6). grafted in: Paul intentionally stretches the analogy of grafting in order to communicate his point that Gentiles have been supernaturally connected to the family of God.
Gentiles, who have been grafted into the Abrahamic covenant and therefore become recipients of God’s blessing, should not boast. Gentile believers should not despise the Jews, the branches of God’s vine.

Abraham was as the root of the church. The Jews continued branches of this tree till, as a nation, they rejected the Messiah; after that, their relation to Abraham and to God was, as it were, cut off. Perhaps there is a misunderstanding here. By Jewish roots I am referring to the Old Testament Judaism not modern Judaism. If Jews were cut off from the root - the root is still there. Also Paul says some of the branches were cut off.
