Jesus definitely fulfilled the Sabbath the same was he did with adultery. He filled it full. He lived it out. He brought out the real meaning. There was nothing wrong with the letter of the law. There was something wrong with the application and understanding of the letter. Jesus' purpose was to live out the law and explain the law and what it really means. He pointed the people back the the singular principle of which the law is based which is love.Has Jesus fulfilled all the law, but one commandment, am I still required to follow the letter of this law? The Fourth commandment. The passover was a law that was required to be followed by all generations. Should we then still be observing the passover, or has Jesus become our passover and when we follow him we are fulfilling that law.
I believe it is the same with the Sabbath. Just as Jesus is our Passover, he is also our Sabbath. The Law pointed to Jesus, by following Jesus we fulfill the law. Jesus is our eternal rest, Jesus is our Sabbath and that is why I believe he is the Lord of The Sabbath. It is my opinion when our eyes and heart and mind are on Jesus we fulfill all of the law. Our rest is not a day ,but our savior. In him we have our rest.
The Sabbath and passover cannot be compared in that light. The passover was a feast which symbolized the taking away of sins via the passover lamb. Jesus is our passover lamb because the blood of the passover lamb was a symbol of his blood on the cross. The passover then was needed to give a symbolic pointing the Jesus' atoning work on the cross and it was necessary. The Sabbath however was different. It was made before sin existed on the earth so it has nothing to do with man's atonement for sin. We are told in the 4th commandment to keep the Sabbath because in 6 days God created heaven and earth. The Sabbath was made independent of the plan of Salvation so it cannot be a shadow of Jesus.

Colossians 2:16 Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath [days]:
Colossians 2:17 Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body [is] of Christ.
You do know that there was the weekly Sabbath and the monthly or yearly sabbaths right. The monthly sabbaths were tied into the whole system of sacrifices and ordinances. We are told in verse 14 that Jesus blotted out the handwriting of ordinances and that is why these sabbath days are obsolete and it is true. The 7th day Sabbath was made before these additional ones and therefore is independent of the shadow system of forgiveness and justification that was in operation before Jesus came. Hebrews 10:1 tell us that this law was a shadow because of the offering and sacrifices that were made. His blood replaced the blood of the passover lamb. His priestly ministry replaces the one held by earthly priest. Now we don't have to set aside a sabbath for sacrifices and for sacrificial feasts. But when it comes to honoring God as creator we still need to do that.
Hello PK, good to see you![]()
Let there be peace on earth and let it begin with me. ....................
Please read Hebrews ch 3 and 4.
The rest for believers is not the seventh day but is a spiritula rest or eternal rest.
The Sabbath is only mentioned outside the Gospels in relation to Jewish believers or the Synogogue.
If we disagree , at least one of us is wrong!
It says it is a shadow of Jesus.
Colossians 2:16 Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath [days]:
Colossians 2:17 Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body [is] of Christ
The word shadow can be translated 'picture' and the word 'body' could be translated 'image'.
Hebrews 3:1 Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus;
Sabbath observance, not trust in Christ alone for complete forgiveness of sins and eternal life, is to be the dividing line between the saved and the lost in the end time. This is certainly antithetical to the gospel defined by the passages above. See also, Rom. 14:5–6; Col. 2:16–17. The Old Testament Sabbath was never anything more than a shadow of the substance. The reality of the New Testament Sabbath rest of God, which Paul and the writer of Hebrews make clear, is Christ Himself, and the rest one experiences from one’s own works when one enters into Christ (Heb. 4:1–10).

What is the new testament Sabbath and who knew about it. When Jesus said that the Sabbath was made for man and not man for the Sabbath which Sabbath was he referring to? He said that he is Lord of the Sabbath.
Like I explained before the 7th day Sabbath which existed before sin existed on this earth was not a shadow of Christ because it was made before Jesus even needed to die. It existed before Jesus needed to come. It existed before he came. He endorsed it when he came. He expected it to be kept after he went back to heaven as he showed in Matthew 24 and according to Isaiah 66:23 it will be kept in the new heaven and the new earth.
It is not strange that it was made in a perfect world with perfect people in the perfect environment in Gen 2: 1 - 3 and in the earth made new it will be kept in a perfect world by a perfect people in a perfect environment according to Isaiah 66: 22,23. The sabbath days that were shadows were those that came in an imperfect world for an imperfect people and contained on those days feasts and ordinances and sacrifices pointing to Jesus and the work he would do on the cross.
When you read Hebrews 8 - 10 you will realize that all the shadows are similar because they all have to do with Jesus work on the cross for us and the process of receiving justification and forgiveness for sins. The 7th day Sabbath has to do with God as creator. We cannot put our own reasons to why something exist. God says to keep the Sabbath because he rested and the 7th day and hallowed it after creating the world in 6 days and that day is set aside for him. The Sabbath is not ours but it is his.
