Gifts of the Spirit

Yes hun I know they are, I was reading it this afternoon, I was just asking why people attach such prominence to some rather than others... I have to go to the world to ask that,, because unless the list is actually taken in order of priority,,,,,, ( which if it is, tongues is down low ) it strikes me that some gifts appear more erm glamerous (for want of a better word).

All The Gifts of God are Supernatural in origin and outcome. They are expressions of THE DIVINE WILL of God and as such cannot operate ouside of and apart from love. Since they are gifts of The Spirit, they are God breathed and carry HIS intent and purpose with them.
I will try by means of an illustration to make clear what I mean. Say for instance (by way of illustration) that I was God and I wanted to convey to a young innexperienced beleiver, who was not as yet mature enough to know The Word, so I move by My Spirit upon someone in a meeting that I know is open to Me. I impress upon them that I have such a love for everyone that no one is excluded and that My Love is all encompassing. Now that person may get exactly what I meant or just an inkling. If they were not sure maybe they would, moved by My Spirit, give a tonge and wait for an interpretation, all the time asking me to reveal more. Another may be more open To My Spirit and give a word of Prophesy in answere to their asking for it, or the person I origionally gave it to may receive and give the word. As you can see tongues and interpretation is the same as prophecy. But My intention has been demonstrated through The Gifts ! I hope this helps and not hinders.

It is assumed when speaking of the gifts, that we speak of tongues, in my experience on forums...

There are many Gifts on the list and yet it is always assumed it's tongues we speak of. Why is that ?

I think it is because the gift of tongues to inteligent men is so silly, so the enemy has an easy way in. But 25 Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men. 26 For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called: 27 But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; 28 And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are: 29 That no flesh should glory in his presence. 30 But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption: 31 That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord. 1 Cor 1:25-31 (KJV)

Never think that testing someone is necessarily doing wrong though Canny. I use the word " someone " quite deliberately rather than spirit because you could be exposing a false teacher and false teacher = false spirit.

Canny I'm sorry but I have to disagree with you the Gifts of the Holy Spirit is vert valuable to the Christian, that is one of the main works of the Holy Spirit, I don't understand why someone does not to receive every thing God has for us, yes speaking in tongues to me is hard to understand as far as the Assembly of God, places it as the most important. I don't agree with their stance on it and I made that clear to their leadership, Paul does not say that in the scripture the main point is their is a diversities of gifts used to edify the individual, and the church, the other main point here I belive some think this is only for certain individuals or denominations and thats not true,
the church is meant the Church of believers, that Jesus is the head of and we the believers get the gifts that our used as sort of to use in the spiritual realm some gifts are what some believers have to use in the spiritual realm, but sometimes the Holy Spirit uses someone just as a vessel, they are very important to the believer so we can continue the work of Jesus to have the power he had to continue His ministry, mainly because there is a spiritual warfare going on all the time, we are on are own in the world but we must learn to be transformed out of the world and walk in the spiritual realm, people need to understand that these gifts are available to everyone, but we must grow spiritually to be given them that's why they are gifts, but it's sort of like when we first become believers it is refered to by some as a baby feeding on the milk of the word but we are to study the word and grow when we get to the gifts we are now growing to understand the meat of the word. What does Paul say to the church in Corinthians in verse 12:1 Now concerning spiritual gifts brethern, I do not want you to be ignorant.
It would be like a child has to learn and study and be taught to go from first grade to twelth grade and then graduate, the same with the bible you would not expect a new christian to understand Revelation when they have not even read Genesis. What I meant is that we need to learn the wisdom of the Biblical word by talking or listening to man we can be inlightened by man but it is our duty as christians to study the word for ourselves or we could find ourselves being led asrtay by fasle teachers or false prophets especially in end times, I always try to speak the word by solid biblical knowledge and God's word, but I'm simply a vessel for God to use it's not coming from me it comes through me but it's the Holy Spirits words without Him I'm ignorant, but I prayed and ask for God to put a burning desire in me so I would always be on fire to learn the word and grow in knowledge. Read what it says in 2 Timothy 2:15 says. I have a burning desire to teach and help others to grow in the word. But I can't here because most don't want to listen but that hurts me because I don't want to see my brothers and sisters not grow, I'm not mister smart guy I just love the word of God and grow and be used by God but I'm learning that itis painfull sometimes but I won't stop trying. You know you are very specially to me one reason is you have a spiritual gift to get people to laugh and smile especially when their feeling down God gave you that gift to help others as well as yourself. Well I went on long enough I pray you'll get some help and understanding from what I just said.

erm,,, Lil,, I have no idea what you are referring to ,,, I'm sorry.

You are correct Canny when you say some seem more glam to you but I suspect thats just to do with the impression people have given to rather than the Spirt itself. Each and everyone is just as important as the other, its just some people get on a soap box about having the gift of tounges and think its more important. Infact, some people are so up themselves about it they will try and convince you you aren't a " real " Christian unless you speak tongues, which is hogwash.

Ok, by testing I mean, Christian Scientists claim that Jesus was a man who received the Spirit of the Christ. Mormons say Jesus was a man who became God to show us how to become gods. False teaching. Liberal theologians deny the virgin birth of Jesus and thus deny His incarnation and His deity. False teaching. JW's, HEAPS of false prohechies and the only way you will know is Scripture, Scripture, Scripture. If it doesn't match up, it's false. This is why it's imperative you know you're Bible.

Basically, you test everything against Scripture, never think it is wrong to question is what I am saying.
Test them and ask, are they in harmony with the word of God?

I didnt say they were more glam to me,,, I was wondering if they are more glam which would in some ways draw more attention to them.... NO WAY are they more glam to me...
