Let there be peace on earth and let it begin with me. ....................
I have a Tattoo of Freddie Mercury (on my arm) a Butterfly (on my shoulder blade) and a Rainbow (below the belt line)
I guess I worked on a navy base for so long until I know very few people who do not have a tat of some type. My eighteen year old daugher has one and my 16 year old son is saving up money for his as well. I think the discussion of right or wrong could go either way....but I don't happen to have a problem with them personally.
I can't see much wrong with a tattoo for a Christian, depending on what it is of course. I don't think a devils head on your back would be such a good idea. It's no different to pierced ears
Thats a good point to consider, but the preceding verse says not to round the corners of your hair or trim the corners of your beard. It may come back to the Law/ Grace thing on this one, bearing in mind it was the post captivity Israelites this was addressed to.
If something was wrong in the OT, it's also wrong in the New. It's gotten so "anything goes" in the churches, and you can't even see a difference between believers and unbelievers.
If you have a tattoo that was gotten BC, it is a good reminder of your old life and there's no need to feel guilty about getting one before knowing what God's Word says about it. If you get one after you've become a born again Christian, I think it's a big mistake and something you'll regret later on.
There's too much compromising in the church and it's getting worse all the time, and people do look on the outward appearance whether you like it or not.
I recently followed a link to a healing ministry in Florida, and found it hard to get past the pastor's gaudy tattoos covering both his arms. I found it hard to concentrate on the message. It drew attention to the person, not the Gospel message. Tattoos on anyone say "Look at me!" In reality, we should be pointing people to Christ, not ourselves, unless we're testifying to the change Christ has made in our lives for the better.
We're to be holy in every area of our lives, not look and act like the world and be a walking advertisement for Miami Ink, etc.
There are churches who frown upon makeup or a woman cutting her hair based on OT law. What I wonder though....which of those laws came from God and which of those were just part of the expanded Jewish laws? They even came against Jesus for healing someone on the Sabbath. So apparently, this was part of their law and not His.
I think, we too, as the church have to be careful not making up what is right and wrong based on our personal preferences. I used to have a real tendency to do that and it took some real work and prayer to get out of the habit. I still have to catch myself from time to time from making judgement calls based on a person's appearance.
