I know I am kind of late on this topic, but I feel the need to give my own 2 cents.
I, for one, cannot understand people who see something wrong with the doctrine of Hell. God is god...what do we expect Him to do? Send all His people to Heaven with the unsaved? To me, that would just cause Heaven to end up like Earth...corrupt, if you can understand what I am getting at. We seem to find nothing wrong with jails - prison is like torment, too, you know. You're seperated from your family and friends, locked in tiny cells with other criminals, some even more dangerous than you. I think this is a good pointer to Hell. Hell, to me, is like a prison. Or it IS prison. You're seperated from God, etc., only not everyone gets parole or bail. But, when it comes to Hell...people start backing up.
God is a just god. Justice means punishing the unjust. Justice is rewarding the just. I do not deserve to be saved, but I am because God has allowed me to become saved. We have the choice whether or not to accept God. We don't know it consciously, but when we choose to live lifestyles that do not have God in them we are going to have the consequences of it. Sure, by our standards, there are "good" people. But just because someone donates to the Good Will or helps people in Africa does not make them "good" in God's eyes. He judges us by our hearts, not by our actions. Righteous deeds do not save us, nor do the interventions of other men.
Sincerely,
NTG
