I'm surprized that you say Satan and those cast into the LOF, will no longer exist. I thought the common idea was that they will spend eternity in the torture of fire. Also, do the majority of Christians believe Christ will really return to Earth at some future point?

The parable about the sheep and goats is about the time when Jesus returns to this Earth and he will judge all the people, the righteous and the unrighteous. The righteous WILL live forever, with Him in Heaven, and the unrighteous will be cast into the "Lake of Fire" with Satan and will no longer exist. (Actually, the verse I wanted to point out was 46, which says, "Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life." The word "punishment" has a different meaning than word "torture".)
    Sounds good to me.

    Dear Gary52 ,
I for one would interprit the parable that way

Their soul will spend eternity(everlasting) in hell Matthew25:46 , Revelation 20:11-15

I for one believe from scripture alone Christ will return based on so much prophecy that is not yet fulfilled based on Leviticus 26 , Daniel 9, Joel and many more to set up His earthly Kingdom restoring the kingdom to Israel

slightly different to the way titus212 put it, and the way I see it. They will no longer exist for eternity.

    Me too.

I know this is going slightly off topic, but in response to your question about Christ returning to earth, I would say the basic idea of that is one that all Christians hold. The details vary (e.g. is there a 1000 year period involved or not? Is there a Rapture or not? How does Israel fit in? etc) but the basic premise of Christ's return has been part of orthodox Christian belief right back to when the Apostles Creed was written.

I believe in God, the Father Almighty,
the Creator of heaven and earth,
and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord:
Who was conceived of the Holy Spirit,
    born of the Virgin Mary,
    suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried.
    He descended into hell.
The third day He arose again from the dead.
    He ascended into heaven
and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty,
whence He shall come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church,
    the communion of saints,
    the forgiveness of sins,
    the resurrection of the body,
    and life everlasting.
    Amen

    Keep searching Gary!

The lake of fire was prepared for the Devil and his angels.

Adam chose to believe Satan (the Devil) instead of God and became a sinner (dissobedient to God) and is subject to the same condemnation as Satan because God is holy and cannot allow sin to enter his presence

God sent His Son Jesus to provide a way of salvation from this condemnation.

The choice is up to the individual. Those who believe in Jesus as the Son of God and accept Him as their Saviour will be forgiven . cleansed from their sin by the blood of Jesus and accepted by God on the basis of what Jesus has done. Those who reject Jesus will be rejected by God.

Don't blame God for the result of man's mistakes. Hell was not designed for man but he will end up their unless he turn away from evil to follow Jesus the righteous Son of God.

Jesus told the story (Luke 16) of the rich man who ended up in hell(Hades) being in torment.

[QUOTE=gibby;28080]Hell was created for Satan and his demons, not for us. Those that reject the FREE gift of salvation through Jesus Christ that is available to ALL, choose hell. He does not make anyone go to hell. God does not torture; He just respects our free will and allows people to reject Him.

Yes, I agree with this is knowing the Spirit of God in our own relationship, as well as looking at the bible.
The way God seems to works now with people is that He thoroughly warns them before He pours out His wrath. So they have the option to repent and turn to Him.

If God does that with people as we see in the bible such as Ninevah as one example as many ,and also with people now. Then He is surely going to thoroughly show people the consequences of rejecting His gift of salvation. I am sure that people will be really shown the outcomes of rejecting Jesus, and that this is eternal seperation of God. I feel sure that God would not allow people to go through that for an eternity and through ignorance and not knowing. People would have to be really shown, and given choice.

Only I have seen people still reject Jesus, after they have been shown the truth. Also looking through the bible I believe that believe it or not, many people would actually prefer to be in hell, then to receive the free gift of salvation, because their hostility to God is so great. Please consider these scriptures with this:
    Revelation 16:9-16 Romans 8:5-15 2 Peter 3:9

The very heart of the gospel and a Christ filled life is to receive and give forgiveness

I saw a TV programme recently where a man was interviewed. He had written a book about his experience in hell. He had been taken by God in a time when he was unconscious and show the reality of Hell.

Any one who is uncomfortable with Hell is probably going there. Those with their faith In Jesus have nothing to worry about.

God does not torture anyone. What the bible says is that those in Hell/The Lake of Fire will be tormented. This is probably because they had the chance to avoid hell and did not take it. The torment is self inflicted.

Dr Billy Graham described Hell as "Separation from God"

There are 3 hells talked about in the NT.

    1) "Hades" simply means "pit" or "grave."
Ecclesiastes 9:5-6 and verse 10 say this about this "hell." For the living know that they will die; But the dead know nothing, And they have no more reward, For the memory of them is forgotten. 6 Also their love, their hatred, and their envy have now perished; There is no thought process once you are dead. You will have to be resurrected before you can think again.

    2) "Gehenna" is a place of punishment. This is the "Lake of Fire." This too is referred to as "hell."
Since Ro.6:23 says For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
And Ezek.18:4, 20 say Behold, all souls are Mine; The soul of the father as well as the soul of the son is Mine; The soul who sins shall die.20 The soul who sins shall die. The son shall not bear the guilt of the father, nor the father bear the guilt of the son. The righteousness of the righteous shall be upon himself, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon himself.

We should see what happens to these in this "Gehenna." Malachi 4:1, 3 say “For behold, the day is coming, Burning like an oven, And all the proud, yes, all who do wickedly will be stubble. And the day which is coming shall burn them up,” “That will leave them neither root nor branch. [That is total annihilation] Now read verse 3. “You shall trample the wicked, for they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet On the day that I do this,” Says the LORD of hosts.

    3) There is one more "Tartaroo" it is only used once in the Bible. In 2Pet.2:4. This one refers to a place where Satan and his demons will be restrained forever. This is the only one that lasts forever. This is never applied to people.
