So a tomato seed was germinated in a potato to get a topato, but the grafting of the two gives you a potoma. Interesting.

I'm just thinking about the energy and nutrient flows, I wonder if they work against each other.

The potato takes energy down and stores it as starch, the tomato takes energy up to store as fruit.

and then u can also graft Okra to tomato too

...these plants have no commercial value but you can have a pot with these grafts and show off to your neighbours

My Granddaughter and I planted some tomato plants about a month ago and we have all been amazed at how quickly they have grown and ready to eat. Her other Grandmother was quite miffed because she has been growing them for years quite seriously and her's are still green.
She asked what my secret was. I gave her the line, " Ooooo we can't tell you that cos if we do we may have to kill you ", so she is now under the impression that I have some secret

Little does she know that, when you are planting with a 4yr old, you just throw ( and I mean " throw " ) some soil in the pot, whack em in ( and I mean " whack em in " ), throw a bit more soil around the place, drown them in water ( you try giving a 4yr old a hose and expect them not to drown things ) and just hope for the best
Never be overwhelmed by decisions, just consider the right ones and your options will be far fewer.

Your story reminded me of my granddaughter in the garden with me. Down south we grow turnip and mustard greens in the cool weather. We were pulling some leaves from the mustards for dinner that night and she said....."Nana, how do you get them in the bottle," thinking they magically turned into French's yellow mustard.

That sweet little angel hasn't been in the garden with me for several years now but every season I think about that.

Isn't it just the best feeling when you have moments like that.

Doing things with my Son was precious and amazing but, when we are there, getting into a right state, I very often look at her and think, " WOW, my child's child ! " It's a feeling like nothing on earth.

Was SO funny because we are always getting told off by those spoilsport Parents of hers who think we should behave . My Son came home from work and there we were, SOAKING wet, soil everywhere, even in our hair, shoes and our faces filthy, smiling like this through the dirt. He his eyes first, then, " You've ONLY been planting a few tomato's ! and my garden looks like a bomb has gone off in a garden center with my Daughter looking like she's been dumped in a grow bag ! "

    Did we care ?

Oh Lily, you bring tears to my eyes. So many memories of when they were small. Now, except for one, they're teens...one going off to college in a few months....and I seldom get to talk to them without competing with their cell phones and texting messages. But, I have the memories. If I'm lucky I'll be around to spend time with their children in the garden.

No-one can rob you of those memories. My heart goes out to you.

Yes, tomatoes really do grow and grow, don't they. As long as the conditions are right: soil, warmth, light, water...then they will often just grow and grow.

(They can also suddenly all die, if one or some of those conditions aren't met.)

Bit like us really - except the soil!

And we get red if we are out in the sun all day.
