We all know that going out to eat can really throw a monkey wrench in our diet plans if we are not careful. But, these simple tips can help you make healthy choices from the menu and not blow you off the charts of caloric management.
1. Stay away from anything that is fried. And don't be decieved; fried vegetables are not good for you.. Resturaunts have the ability to put any good-for-you food in batter and completely transforming them into an artery-clogger and waist line buster. This also goes for chicken fried steaks, chicken strips, monte-cristos, etc.
2. Skip the fries or substitute them with a dinnder salad, baked potato, or veggies. Cole slaw is not a healthy substitute, btw.
3. Sodas are bad, including the diet sodas. There has been research that suggests diet sodas can trick the body into thinking there is sugar in the bloodstream which causes an excess release of insulin which in turn increases hunger.
4. Broiled is good. I usually pick the broiled chicken items off the menu personally.
5. If you get a salad, skip the dressing. This can make a salad worse than a plate of french fries in a hurry. If you have to have the dressing, get it on the side and dip a tiny bit on your fork before poking the greens.
6. Say "no" to desert.
7. Educate yourself on nutritional eating which will help you build a foundation on making healthful choices.
This list is brief so feel free to add to it.
Of course, sometimes our goal is to ruin our diet and cheat so, if that is the case, knock yourself out and get the desert.![]()

I can't afford to eat out; I can barely afford to eat at home.

yes you are very fortunate to enjoy a meal cooked for you.so when i get one i enjoy it.![]()
If you know the Restuarant your going to and they know you it helps. As you find they will cook food as you require. Fish is a good thing to have but make sure that you done have the sauce with it, can be nice steamed with the veggie then you have the all round flavour. For dessert you can have Fresh fruit
I know exactly what you mean! I can't wait until my first paycheck. I plan to take the family to some HUGE buffet and eat until we can't get up. I am SO SICK of the cheap food we have been eating lately. The only real variety has been the Ramen Noodle flavor of the day.
About the time I get on my high horse, Jesus comes riding in on a donkey.
Food is good for you !,,, all of it.... !!!!! Fats, sugars, salts, veggies, proteins, what is bad is eating one of them all the time.....
I agree with GloryB,,, if I go out its a treat and I wanna eat what I cant get at home... lots and lots of naughty stuff,,,, my arteries wont shut down because of one meal![]()
Let there be peace on earth and let it begin with me. ....................
I used to treat myself once a month when I got my retirement check. Denny's used to have a huge great tasting Jalapeno burger that was SO moist. I would get that and spicy french fries that were so good they didn't need ketchup. For some reason they quit buying the Jalapeno peppers, and I had no reason to go there any more. Besides, since my retirement check was recently cut $345 per month, I can't eat out at all any more. Also, being on a restricted diet due to diabetes and other medical problems that requirement daily meds, I have to be careful.

Hey Gibby thanks for the tips on eating out.I don’t too much when we go out to eat because we’re home most of the time.
It is kind of like one of those don’t be too hard on yourself. . However if you do go out often to eat would make adjustments in what I am eating. And that would probably be just eating less than I usually do. Maybe have a health snack before going.
Put this in the fitness area I got a program at home but it needs improvement. . I have a bench press for example that needs to be assembled. I need to get some tools to put it together. ..
Currently I use the dumbbells for some exercises. Some light impact cardio and resistance flex cords. .
I probably weigh more than anyone at this site currently. Last check was 335 pounds after eating breakfast this morning. .
Much of this is due to high carbs with not being able to get out of the house that much.
The muscles in my arms legs and chest are pretty well developed. But I need to be on my feet more without harming my heart.
Let's start with a shrimp cocktail with a spicy horse radish sauce. Then I'll take the one pound porterhouse steak (prime beef), blackened, cooked medium rare; twice baked potato; green beans with bacon; and a fresh tossed salad with roquefort dressing. For dessert pecan pie, a double chocolate mousse, or flan is lovely. An expresso to finish up goes nicely.
Now going back to the OP one of the things I find is that I sometimes have the tendency to continue eating even after I'm sated. That will put on pounds or keep one from losing. Also, moderation is a good plan for eating. For me I eat what I want but nip and tuck where I can. And I simply cannot enjoy a piece of pie every night with a heavy meal to boot. Once a week maybe but eating sensibly works for me. I eat what I want but in such a way (and I know how much is too much) works well for me.
