When my Son and Daughter in law chose the name they didn't know the meaning of it either. They chose it because the leading lady in Goodwill hunting played someone called Skylar and they just loved it.

I was named after my paternal grandfather, who I never knew as he died while my dad was still a boy. I still remember a shock I got at church a few years ago....

It was a visiting preacher, and there was a bit in his sermon that I was a bit unsure about. So, after the sermon, I went up to him and asked him about it. He was able to explain a bit more, which reassured me, so that was all fine. Then he asked me a couple of questions. First of all, what was my name (easy one that!) and then, "What does it mean?" Well, I happen to know that, so I told him, thinking, "That's an odd question to ask." I'll not forget what happened next.

He looked straight at me, and said "That is because God has appointed you to be ............ (excuse me if leave out the details, that's personal), and he has already placed that in your heart, which is why you asked me what you did." As he said it, it was like he was staring right into my soul, and I instantly knew that what he was saying was true.


Names are important, and Skylar has a beautiful one, Lily. By God's grace may the promise of that name come to fruition.
