If the relationships between the parents of these girls and boys were as it should be then the parents would be teaching correctly about the safe practices of sex.

Abstinence is not realistic for teens in our post-Christian society. A teen of very good character can pull it off, but it is a challenge that can hardly be expected. A teen who pulls it off is more likely socially/sexually dysfunctional than of sufficiently strong character.

The failure here is not the teen who fails to holdout, it is the Christian community that is more worldly than godly. Teenagers should be expected to get married while they are teenagers. The church community should provide compatible choices, approaching arranged marriages. The church should stop winking at sexual sins, such as premarital sex, divorce, and homosexuality. But, the modern church that is more comfortable with sin than with righteousness.

The age of consent varies wildly across the USA. What is legal in one State, is taboo in another.
In the UK, despite having a fixed legal age of consent, there are hundreds of young girls below that age, becoming pregnant every year, and many more who are sexually active.
Is it time therefore, to consider lowering the age of consent?
Would we be ushering in a new age of wanton decadence and sexual free-for-all, or are we just hiding our heads in the sand, and deploring the obvious?

No we should not be lowering it at all. In the uk we have all those problems not because of the age of consent but in spite of it. Also successive governments have taken it upon themselves to legislate that "sexual education " be taught in schools, this has become so bad as to now include sexual perversion as well ! They may not admit to it, but that is what is taught in schools here today. Offer a child a lollipop and then hide it ! The child will try to get it ! The same with sex education ! Show them and they will want to experiment. The one thing that should be taught is no sex outside of marriage, but that is to hard for them to grasp ! And we actually pay for this folly ! I am totally dissmayed and disgusted at them ! Are you ?

Right on! I don't know if you have it in UK.
But to me people should do more and more Home Schooling.

Our Pastor and his wife do and have started a school based on the home school principle and use the same teaching materials as a lot of you do in the USA

Apart from anything else, you start talking about things like this in front of a class of children and all you will hear are sniggers and giggles.
Not really teaching them that this is something very beautiful between two people behind closed doors is it ? To me, it's making a mockery of something that is sacred and beautiful.

The estate where I live, I wouldn't be suprised if in years to come Sisters weren't having babies with Brothers ( unknowingly ) because young girls are having so many babies by different men.

Yet they say sex education works ?
This is one of the reasons we scrapped and saved to send my Son to private school ( can't deny my husband credit there, he worked hard to do it ), so that we could have more of a say about what my Son was being taught and what he " wasn't " to be taught.

That sounds great, we need more of this all over the world.

Over here a teacher can take a young girl say 13 years old to get an abortion and does not have to tell the parents. That is enforced by law.

But my nieces at 13 where order to go a visit there divorced dad, even though it was proven to have been molested by a step brother and they were constatly exposed to porn. The judge said they had no rights to speak.
