I realise this is a hugely sweeping statement but I think basically people are self centred and are more concerned with what immediately affects them and do not consider the wider good and the longer term.
Politicians play to this and effectively “bribe” people with goodies and promises of more. Yesterday’s pre-budget report is a good example. Also people are kept happy and distracted with “bread and circuses” – television & sport as an opium of the masses.
I think you are right with option D – we don’t do politics as Christians. We probably vote for a party without having a clue as to whether the candidate has Christian values.
Sadly also when people in power are supposed to be Christians they seem to have left their Christian values behind. Tony Blair is a Christian, as is Gordon Brown and Margaret Thatcher to name but three prime ministers. Brown actually talks about his “moral compass”, but if he has one it seems to swing wildly around.
