No, I don't believe it is "just" a piece of Jewish poetry. Far from it! I believe it is a Holy Spirit-inspired piece of poetic writing, that God through Moses used to teach his people that he made all of creation, and made it very good. But the fact that it is Holy Spirit inspired does not mean it needs to be read literalistically - any more than the Holy Spirit inspired phrases in the Psalms, or the Song of Solomon, or Jesus's parables, or the symbolic prophecies etc should be read literalistically.

Just the physical makeup of light perhaps? The sun is not the only source of light in the universe. It is a form of energy from many different sources. So, if you are considering it in terms of the laws of the universe, I would tend to think that it is just the physical property of it as we know it today.

I am inclined to go with the basic chemicals required than with Jesus, because Jesus is there right at the beginning, I can't see the need to create Him again.

Interesting points made tho, thank you

Absolutely Gibby , Light is light as opposed to darkness ,there was only darkness on the face of the earth ,now there was light that separated the dark from the light

Dear Eddybear, what do you actually mean ? Do you believe in the creation as stated in Genesis ,do you believe in Genesis 1-3

The first 5 books are the Law books ,so if you spiritualise Genesis using your basis then you must also spiritualise or allegorise, exodus , leviticus , numbers and deuteronomy

The first five books are the torah or teachings

Then come the Prophets ,self explanatory

Finally we have the Writings and it is these 13 books that are the partly poetic and partly teaching

Psalms and the Song of Solomon are found here ....not in the Torah
