A fast in the biblical sense is not about weight loss anyway it is about concentrating on God.
Have you ever fasted Dan and if you have, how often and for how long and what benifits did you feel ?
Never be overwhelmed by decisions, just consider the right ones and your options will be far fewer.

God's promises never fail
I go on a two to three week fast each year plus several shorter (about four days) fasts, depending on my schedule and mood.
I am healthy and not overweight. I cannot tell you how much of that I owe to fasting, but I believe that fasting has helped me maintain health. If I am feeling physically or mentally sub-par, fasting returns me to feeling good. Spiritually, fasting makes it easier to concentrate on God and for longer periods.
If I were diabetic, I would spend several months preparing (sticking closely to a healthy diet and lifestyle) for a fast then start a juice fast, using just enough juice to maintain my blood sugar.
I think that a lot depends on you're overall health really. Plus the factors of age and any other conditions is important.
My Father is 82, he's insulin dependant, ( has been for about 20yrs now ) eats the most healthy diet of any one I know, yet has a dreadful time keeping it under control.
His routine is consistant but the diabeties seems to be a law unto itself.
EG: Few weeks back, his blood sugar was 17 when he tested it at midday, so it was a light lunch of fish and mixed salad. Took it 2 hours later, it was 19.
He's very active for his age, infact he never stops really, so he decided to see if it would come down by digging the front garden. He was out there for over an hour.
Tested his blood again, it had gone UP ! not down as exercise dictates it should
Now, all he had eaten that day was porridge for breakfast and fish and salad.
He walked to my house about 10 minutes away and I asked had he forgotten his insulin or had enough units, but no, he's of very sound mind and on the ball with that. Yet within minutes of sitting down and talking away, it was like seeing a page turn in a book, he paled, started shaking and started telling me I should get rid of this cat that I don't have
I quickly gave him sugary lemonade and a chocolate bar and he calmed enough for me to prick stick his finger ( his poor fingers are black on the end ), to see that his blood sugar was only 2. It didn't drop slowly, it dropped like a stone right before my eyes.
Yet other days, he can pack away more food than I ever could and insulin is the last thing he needs because he can't raise his sugar.
He keeps a diary, on advice from the hospital and everything he eats, including the times, how many units of insulin he takes and all exercise is recorded and I have to say, the medics look rather like. He has them stumped because he's doing nothing wrong.
One Doctor put forward the suggestion that because he has so much else wrong with him, pernicious anemia, heart disease, raynaud's syndrome and prostate cancer and taking all sorts for those, that there could be an inner battle going on with different drugs but I think that was just a shot in the dark really and a nice little euphomism for " we don't know ".
I can't even begin to imagine what his body would do if he fasted. Ironically, even with all of the above and being 82, he's wonderful really. The way he saunters around and keeps active would put a 20yr old to shame. With everything he has wrong with him, he jokes that if he was a horse, they would shoot him![]()

My metabolism slowed down.
I stopped drinking soda and I started losing weight.
When I switched from burgers to tacos, I started losing weight and my doctor asked me about it.
I try to eat healthy and I like to eat grapefruit once in a while.
