Does anyone believe they have anything to boast about in the Lord in regards to keeping their commitments in living the christian life and in serving Him in ministry when it is by faith in the Son of God that we have our being?
Galatians 2:20-21
I would like to thank the Lord for using Onesiphorus in pointing out this online dictionary for the purpose of displaying the definition of commitment.
Commitment
It has no place in a believer's testimony for it speaks of the speaker which is a false witness: John 5:31
It exalts the man in what he is going to do, seeking his glory: John 7:18-19
Yet we are not to boast of tomorrow: James 4:13-17
We have to decrease and speak nothing of the commitments of man or of ourselves so that when we speak of our faith in Christ, they will see Him working in our lives and not the accomplishments of a religious man by keeping that commitment in following Jesus. John 3:28-30 2 Corinthians 4:5-7
If a man is defiled by what comes out of his mouth as in a false witness, then whenever a man speaks of his commitment that seeks his glory by keeping it, he is defiling himself by his testimony.
Matthew 15: 18But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man. 19For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies: 20These are the things which defile a man:
Believers should not be known by their commitments to Christ as being His. That leaves alot of avenues for self condemnation and condemning others by as if they were never saved.. or not trying hard enough.. or worse...
The scriptures declares how we are all children of God by: Galatians 3:26
Our righteousness is of Him... not by any man's boast in keeping their commitments: Romans 3:24-28 1 Corinthians 3:21-23 1 Corinthians 1:29-31
Commit can mean entrust, but the one we need to watch out for is the one that many nobles and mighty men would respond to.. and that is the commit of commitment declaring "I will"... but those of faith will only be identified by faith in Him indeclaring "He will.." John 6:28-29 Philippians 1:6 Jude 1:24-25
A divided hope is an insecure hope and thereby lacking the necessary assurance for that singular hope to be hope.
Let nothing divide your hope in Jesus. Colossians 1:20-23

The just shall live by faith but those that speak of their commitments to Christ are bearing witness of themselves and thus a false witness.
If we mean what we say that man cannot do it, then we better be denying ourselves of being able by denouncing our ability to keep those commitments so that we can testify of our faith in Jesus Christ as Our Enabler in living this christian life and even in serving Him. Amen.

Ya lost me a bit there ( not unusual with my poor abilities )
I just try, that is all I can do, I try to have trust, I try and have faith in His plan, I try,, I am weak, yet He loves me, so if I try then I honour Him surely ?
If I succeed, then I am perfect,,,,,,,,,, so therefore I no longer exist because there is only one that is/was perfect
Let there be peace on earth and let it begin with me. ....................
By His grace, I say this:
"No matter how much the spirit is willing, the flesh is weak: therefore what is impossible with man ... is possible with God."
A religious man has to come to the end of himself by surrendering to what God has done through Jesus Christ. Indeed, unless we become as a child in receiving the Kingdom of God, we shall in no wise enter therein. Mark 10:13-15 So what can a child do but trust the Lord?
When the people asked Jesus what works of God they are to do: Jesus answered: John 6:28-29
That means God can only do God's work.
Trust is the basis for all relationships and we follow Him by the grace of God: the just shall live by faith in the Son of God and all His promises to us. That is how we get to know Him when we take Him at His word.
If you want to be a witness of the Son, you do so by declaring your faith in Him.
If we do not want to be seen as a religious person, we should speak less of ourselves and more of our hope in Him so that sinners may be converted to Him by hoping and believing in Him.
I can only hope God is causing the increase for you, canny.

Pariah rarely visits these days ( I miss him ) but I thought this thread was worth bumping up.
Never be overwhelmed by decisions, just consider the right ones and your options will be far fewer.
pariah is well versed in what the bible says. but i just want to clarify a point that he is mistaken.
When the people asked Jesus what works of God they are to do: Jesus answered: John 6:28-29
That means God can only do God's work.
this is what is meant. check the meaning of the hebrew words
28They then said, What are we to do, that we may [habitually] be working the works of God? [What are we to do to carry out what God requires?]
29Jesus replied, This is the work (service) that God asks of you: that you believe in the One Whom He has sent [that you cleave to, trust, rely on, and have faith in His Messenger].
Perhaps you ought to check. It is in Greek not Hebrew.
εἶπον οὖν πρὸς αὐτόν· Τί ποιῶμεν ἵνα ἐργαζώμεθα τὰ ἔργα τοῦ θεοῦ;
Actually they do not ask what works of God they are to do. They ask "What shall we do, that we might work the works of God?
Jesus does not say that. Jesus says "This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent." The text says nothing about what you have claimed.
