| God's voice & the Spirit within me I have read and I have listened to many tell me and others. I have heard it in the church pulpits, I have heard it in seminars and bible classes. I dug deep the Word of God, I tried whatever the Word tells me to do. But still I do not know what they are talking about. 1.Does God speak to you in an audible voice?. Does God need an audible sound to speak to us from within us. Is it as simple as they say, it is, to tune into this frequency of God and immediately hear Him talk to you? Anyone with this experience please tell us what is the voice you hear. What does it sound like. What is the tone and temperament with which it is spoken to you? If it is an audible voice as some say, why don't they reply in an audible voice too? 2. Often we say we must walk in the spirit, worship in the spirit, live in the spirit, pray in the spirit, we must read the bible in the spirit, We must evaluate Gods word in the spirit. How can one feel the Spirit? How can I sense the spirit? If anyone can throw some light on their experiences it would be a great help for my understanding. JIP |

| Occasionally, I have been told to do something or to pass something on, but it is not hearing in the literal sense,,, its a kinda "just know" feeling,,, I must do this, I have to go there, and there is no reason for it. I have found myself doing some very strange things, just because it was the right thing to do at that time..... If this is God speaking to me,,, and I believe it is... its worked well so far, and I have passed on as much as I can,,, even sometimes to the point of feeling silly. |

| Quote:
2."just know' - is it thought in your mind and not a sound? 3.feeling. - so it is an emotion but emotions are part of the soul hence not spirit. So you are as confused as anybody else, are you not? When you say you heard your daughter speak to you, it means something else and when you say God speaks to you, it means another? Why? You have not talked about the spirit so I leave that without comment for the moment. Lets keep discussing ok. |

| I know what you mean, JIP. I always here people say, "God told me to do this, or God told me I need to go here or buy this." I always wondered, "Why doesn't he talk to me?" and " I must be an inadequate Christian because God doesn't talk to me like them." Then I become aware that I am hearing condemnation from the enemy and I know that it's not true. Also, people use this as a cop out when you ask them about something. Who is going to argue with them that God told them to do this or that? I am like Canny in that I experience subtle promptings in my heart to do something and then there is the thrill of obeying that prompting such as stepping out in faith and, say, giving money when you don't have much of it yourself. You know what I mean? It's as if you have to be close to God and listening to these subtle promptings as if they were soft whispers to your soul that are not a voice you can hear speaking to you, but a slight nudge or a stirring in your heart (like a fire) to step out and take action. And, when we drift in mind and spirit and allow the noise of the world to invade ever so slightly, we miss those opportunities. Isaiah 30:21 Of course, if the prompting conflicts with scripture in any shape or form, then it's not of God. God "speaking" to me is recalling key passages in scripture in certain situations and knowing how to react.

| Isaiah 30:21 (New International Version) 21 Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, "This is the way; walk in it." I like the NIV version of this verse better.

| First off you must spend time reading the word. Alot of times God speaks to you through the Holy Spirit, its like a feeling you get deep down inside. For me if something is right I feel calm and peaceful. Other times if I'm about to do something wrong or is not God's will I'll feel nevous and uneasy. For me I'll feel God is saying something is being said to me then I get a conformation from someone else, or maybe during my Pastor's message he says something that is just about exactally what I heard. In Psalm 46: 10 God says " Be still and know that I am God." Sometimes we just need to be in a quiet place and just listen, you can first pray God let me know what you would have me do. It's sort of like you have a very best friend and you can share anything you want, but then you have friends that you don't discuss any special things. It still comes down to a very close relationship with the Lord. Actually it always comes down to daily reading the Bible, the bible is God's word and everything he needs to say is in there. Keep reading and studying the Bible and it will happen. Jesus want's a special relationship with you. He says "He is a friend that sticks closer than a brother." God Bless You. |

| Isaiah 30:21 (King James Version) King James Version (KJV) Public Domain 21.And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left. Listening to God is not just a voice thing for me. And I do believe I have heard God speaking to me directly. It starts with the word and the truth. God has given us clear instruction in the bible so sincerity and truth is something he requires from us all. And when we walk in sincerity and truth, we do not approach God and ask about things which he has clearly spoken about to us. Fancying your neighbours wife is a no no. There will be times when clear direction is not found in the word of the Lord because somethings are not clear cut. But faith allows us to find answers in the most difficult places. How real do you believe God is and how much do you believe he will answer you? I have found God reveals things to me as I need to know them. Before the children died in the family he gently let me know in his own way about the first one. I was not to know that this was to prepare me for the time I heard the voice of Satan. What I do believe is listening to the Lord God is about being in obedience. 1 John 2:27 says the Annointing we have will teach us all things. I believe I have been gradually experiencing this in that you need to commit to the teachings he brings.

| Well I will try to answer each post individually. But right now I would give canny & gibby the gold medal. Canny was telling exactly what was in her heart without any adulteration. "A kinda of feeling". Canny how true, a kind of feeling. Yes indeed a divine kind of feeling. And that is the best answer upto now. We have to develop on what this feeling is. To others I ask again, not how to listen to God's voice. or what God's voice says to us, or where we will find God's voice? The question was simple and straight forward. How does God's voice that you said you heard, sound like? Let us not bring in subjects like "fancying your neighbors wife" here as they are irrelevant to the topic in discussion. I have heard many say "God spoke to me" or "God told me this morning", etc. And when they are confronted with the question what is God's voice like, how does it sound in your ear, the answer is usually something else. If you did not hear God's voice(sound) then why did you say "I heard", or "God spoke to me". You should have said I felt, or I was led to believe or I was made to realize. Any of the above would have be the honest answer under any circumstances. Please note that what I am attempting is not to oppose but to share with you all how God taught me to listen to His Word. Let us not get theology get ahead of our experiences and vice versa. Let there be an equality. We are all educated and God fearing believers. None here is holier than the other. All are equal. Please share your personal experience in hearing God's voice. Be Blessed Always Last edited by JIP; 01-05-2008 at 08:38 AM. |

| I can't bring theology into this discussion, coz I don't know enough, so I am gonna have to go with the experiences themselves. One time, I was coming home from work on a bus, and I just had to get off at a stop which was not near my home, just knew I had to get off the bus,,, I did not want to get off it was cold and raining and I wanted to go home, not once did I think that this was from God, but I audibly said "why" and then got so embarrassed I got off anyway, This was no great good deed,,, I really didn't want to get off that bus !sitting in the bus shelter was an elderly lady crying, she had her purse stolen and her bag and had no way of getting home. (This was before mobile phones). So I got on her bus with her and took her home. So,,, do I say that was God speaking to me ? very possibly. Last edited by canny; 02-10-2008 at 07:33 AM. |
