I have a book that contains many of the sermons of Smith Wigglesworth who was a great part of the Welsh revival in the early 40's. Incredible reading! Entire towns would shut down because everyone wanted to attend the meetings.
About the time I get on my high horse, Jesus comes riding in on a donkey.

I can see the relevance of Revelation 3:15-16 and because of luke warmness, God will spit the church (or part of the church) out of His mouth, or already has done so. Thats why there is now a famine of His Word, and its being replaced by counterfeits. I have seen government legislation and policy that is threatening to infiltrate the church and by force as well. This is where this specifically conflicts with the Word of God.
Don't know if I am right or not, by any of this, and not saying I am. Only it does seem that God is going to allow captivity to the christian places of worship, because of a luke warmness in the first place, and following their own ideas instead of God. As someone gave me the Amos 8:11 scripture to being applicable to these days, and Forgiven has given us Isaiah 8:20. This I think pertains to the many deceptions and counterfeits that replace God's Word.
This all sounds so negative but then it will eventually be positive to those who place their faith and trust in Christ. Though the urgency now is for the church to be revived, as to how God wants and not how man thinks. This is through Christ and through His grace, and for us to be the salt and light of the world to the lost.
I also pray for disorganisation and lack of clarity in all christless unities,like the one world governement. This is on the basis of the modern day tower of babel, as it is such an opposition and abomination to God. Though will happen as shown in revelation, as it will get worse to its height, before it gets better and Christ comes with the fall of the antichrist.

In the first quarter of the nineteenth century Kilsyth had hardened to the Gospel to the point that it was said that, "The Apostle Paul would not be able to get the people of Kilsyth out to a full meeting on three Sabbaths running."
However, this was to change. William Chalmers Burns, a young man twenty four years of age was led to preach on the subject of Revival. He read from Acts 2 and then preached from Psalm 110:3, "Thy people shall be willing in the day of Thy power." As he ministered, people broke forth in uncontrollable wailing and tears and groans intermingled with shouts of joy and praise. Some screamed and others fell to the ground as if dead. The meeting eventually concluded at 3 p.m. having lasted five hours.
The Revival had begun and
1 Corinthians 14: 23If therefore the whole church be come together into one place, and all speak with tongues, and there come in those that are unlearned, or unbelievers, will they not say that ye are mad? ......32And the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets. 33For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.
Matthew 6:5And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. 6But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly. 7But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking. 8Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.Both, the Welsh and the Isle of Lewis - 'Revival' or 'Awakening' - occured after much PRAYER by the Body of Christ - who gathered together to PRAY - night and day.
You pray for something that long enough, you are liable to call something else to come and not the Holy Spirit. If Jesus taught against long prayers and public prayers, then we can see why.
This should have been a good line of discernment that they were not coming to Christ.Apparently, all the people who came to Christ, having repented of sin, then had a hunger and thirst for God
John 6: 35And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.
That was what they were really hungering and thirsting for, otherwise, they would not be ... especially after coming to Jesus Christ.Once again God had chosen to pour out His Spirit on the small town of Kilsyth but there were still more remarkable visitations yet to come.
Since they were set up, expecting to receive power, they got something else: confusion.
Something else was preached in Jesus Christ's name. Something else was exalted in the focus of that worship place and not the Gospel of grace alone.
The false prophets widens the way in approaching God the Father other than through the Son. Anti-christ meaning instead of Christ is applicable when the shift of focus in the worship place went from Jesus Christ to the receiving of that power as a seperate event from believing in Jesus Christ.
This event reminds me of a recent one where a person that was a drug user would testify of the experience supposedly of the Holy Ghost whereas he repented of the life of drugs and now he just gets "high" on the Lord. Looking at the end results of these revivals, all deliverance can be seen as exchanging one high for another. The American Indians will tesify why they took to alcohol because it reminded them of their supernatural experiences when they had dance and chat for the Great Spirit to come. History will bear out that those deliverances are temporary as they slink back to their alcohol or their highs when the visitations cease.
I am certain the pubs were not closed to such a great length of time that they ran out of business for good. They are still there.
By His grace, that is my discernment on that revival: it was not of the Lord.
We cannot look to the good and ignore the obviousness that what was occurring is running contrary to the scriptures and being exposed by the scriptures as not of Him.
A divided hope is an insecure hope and thereby lacking the necessary assurance for that singular hope to be hope.
Let nothing divide your hope in Jesus. Colossians 1:20-23
Galaen mentioned this in another thread, and i found this thread having a look through forums, and thought it relevant here....or a related topic.Don't class all Charismatic churches as being the same though, always test what you see.
I know you to test what you see, but how do you do that? my experiences looking back were quite bizaar, and to think of them this way, i question the truth of it.....so what are the practicalities, or the differences between a good and a bad Charismatic church? how would you direct someone new to this, or searching out a new church?

Although we should not rely totally on our feelings I do think they can help us, if something doesn't feel right then leave it alone and ask God to show you why it didn't feel right.
Are the people taking glory for themselves? - they shouldn't be, all the glory should always go to God.
Do the people lay down the rules and tell you how you will live your life or else? - they should not do, they should teach biblical living and let God convict us of sin or wrongdoing.
Do they allow you to grieve or be sad? they should do, God gave us all our emotions for a reasonand none of them are worthless
Do they force issues like healing or gifts of the spirit (you must speak in tongues etc)? God does not force us to do anything, He convicts us and encourages us but He always gives us the choice
Is the teaching consistent with biblical teaching? It should be, no organisation is bigger or better than God
These are a few questions you could ask yourself when entering a charismatic meeting. Don't just take my word for it, pray about it and ask God to direct you and teach you in this area. Pray and ask for the gift of discernment. My best advice is to pray, pray and pray again because God has all the answers and He will guide you to safe places.

Well the answer is easy but the practicalities are immence. Check all that you see and hear with The Word of God. Knowing The Word well helps, but is no substitute for knowing HIM !
It is easy if you see or hear something that contradicts HIS Word, to know that that is wrong. However a lot of Scripture references can and are taken out of context by some and it is not so easy (Unless you know HIM and HIS Word well)to recognise it then. One thing to remember is that God is not the author of confusion ! I attend a Pentecostal church and could list in great detail, what I see wrong, but I see more wrong in other churches as well. There is no perfect "Church" here on earth now, they are all run and attended by fallen man and even the most mature Christian is not right in all things but is a work still in progress, even the apostle Paul said " Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus."Phil 3:12 (KJV)
