Jude 1:6 And the angels which kept (tēreō) not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day.

I'm not sure which definition fits but the angels didn't guard or watch their first estate. When God put Adam in the garden, his charge in Genesis 2:15 was to keep it and that is a different language (Hebrew) but it means the same thing. And what do we have to guard? We can guard the word of God or the gospel but so many people won't study it.

    Blue Letter Bible - Lexicon

    1) to attend to carefully, take care of

    a) to guard

    b) metaph. to keep, one in the state in which he is

    c) to observe

    d) to reserve: to undergo something

What did Satan do? It says he was a murderer from the beginning but exactly what beginning? Cain and Abel isn't the beginning but you don't have to sin to commit murder in your heart just like you can lust without committing the actual act (Matthew 5:28) and the law is spiritual (Romans 7:24) so when Paul coveted, it didn't have to begin with stealing (Romans 7:7 and 11). When a person is two, they already know how to lie. When they are older they do stuff like steal. When does a horse thief become a horse thief?

John 8:44 Ye are of [your] father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.

Isaiah 14:12 ¶ How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! [how] art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!
Isaiah 14:13 For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:
Isaiah 14:14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.
Isaiah 14:15 Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.

The King of Tyre wasn't in the garden of Eden but God is addressing a principality or power (Ephesians 6:12) called Satan:

Ezekiel 28:12 Son of man, take up a lamentation upon the king of Tyrus, and say unto him, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Thou sealest up the sum, full of wisdom, and perfect in beauty.
Ezekiel 28:13 Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God; every precious stone [was] thy covering, the sardius, topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, the sapphire, the emerald, and the carbuncle, and gold: the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day that thou wast created.
Ezekiel 28:14 Thou [art] the anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee [so]: thou wast upon the holy mountain of God; thou hast walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire.
Ezekiel 28:15 Thou [wast] perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee.
Ezekiel 28:16 By the multitude of thy merchandise they have filled the midst of thee with violence, and thou hast sinned: therefore I will cast thee as profane out of the mountain of God: and I will destroy thee, O covering cherub, from the midst of the stones of fire.
Ezekiel 28:17 Thine heart was lifted up because of thy beauty, thou hast corrupted thy wisdom by reason of thy brightness: I will cast thee to the ground, I will lay thee before kings, that they may behold thee.
Ezekiel 28:18 Thou hast defiled thy sanctuaries by the multitude of thine iniquities, by the iniquity of thy traffick; therefore will I bring forth a fire from the midst of thee, it shall devour thee, and I will bring thee to ashes upon the earth in the sight of all them that behold thee.
Ezekiel 28:19 All they that know thee among the people shall be astonished at thee: thou shalt be a terror, and never [shalt] thou [be] any more.

Luke 10:18 And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven.

He may have lied to the angels just like he told a lie to Eve.

John 8:44 Ye are of [your] father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.

He may have offered them strange flesh (Genesis 6:2).

Did you ever tell your boss "no"?

What were the angels to observe or guard? Why should they guard heaven? Did anyone ever attack heaven before?
