    Romans 7:19-25 (ANIV)
For what I do is not the good I want to do; no, the evil I do not want to do—this I keep on doing. Now if I do what I do not want to do, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does it.
So I find this law at work: When I want to do good, evil is right there with me. For in my inner being I delight in God's law; but I see another law at work in the members of my body, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within my members. What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death? Thanks be to God—through Jesus Christ our Lord!
So then, I myself in my mind am a slave to God's law, but in the sinful nature a slave to the law of sin.

The man who wrote this called himself a pharisee among pharisees, if anyone could obey the law, it was Paul. Note that he was talking in the present tense here. This passage in Romans is the condition of man, and the way to overcome it is to embrace the scriptures I cited in my last post and refuse to let 'the accuser of the brethren' Satan, fill you full of guilt. You point out that Paul says he serves the law, one can serve a master and yet still not be able to reach the standards of the master you serve. and as for James, what law was he refering to?
    James 2:8 (ANIV)
If you really keep the royal law found in Scripture, "Love your neighbour as yourself," you are doing right.
Thanks for your reply I always worry when I think people believe they do not have to obey God's law because of grace. It is conditional that we receive grace and the Bible makes that clear.

I believe that the Law James is talking about is God's law - the law of love - the 10 commandments which the first 4 tell you how to love and honour God and the last 6 tells us how to love our neighbour.
