Being "Demoted"

If I am typing a post and leave it for a while (ti check on what I am saying or to answer teh door) when I come back I am told I am a vistor.
Does anyone have any idea why this should happen?

I have lost a lot of post which I have typped but not submitted when this happens.

When you log in, click the remember me box, then you wont be kicked out,, there is a time limit for inactivity

Tick the box where you sign in that says Remember Me

Then it will not do that

After a time the system refreshes itself and you can be timed out
Ticking that box means it will sign you back in without loosing any info

Do I have to tick the box each time? I seem to remember doing it early on.
