When we are born again of God's Spirit, we have the treasure in jars of clay,
2 Corinthians 4:7 and so our body is the temple of God's Spirit,
1 Corinthians 6:19 The treasure is the relationship between our spirit and God's Spirit. So when we put to death the works of the flesh and live by God's Spirit, we are anointing Jesus.
This is the sweet fragrance of God that is pleasing to Him.
Romans 8:5-17 This can be connected to when the woman in the pharisees house poured out the perfume from the alabaster flask, to anoint Jesus with the perfume,
Matthew 26:6-13 and
Luke 7:36-50. The pharisee thought it was wrong and wasn't impressed but it was pleasing to God as this anointed Jesus and glorified Him, with true worship.
So I was wondering the things we can mention that are a sweet fragrance to God, even though they do not necessarily impress other people. From the bible, or experiences you know about.
I was thinking along the lines of when people do hidden works and do things for others that are behind the scenes, through being motivated by God's love.
That Jesus died for His enemies. That He didn't just die for people who loved Him, but died for people who hated Him, and that is a sweet fragrance of God. (As He shed His blood and illustrated by the poured out perfume He was anointed with). As Christ's love is so complete and unconditional.
Also the works of humility are a sweet fragrance to God, and that whoever humbles themselves will be exalted. That if we openly admit our sins then this is pleasing to God, rather then hiding behind pretentious acts and talk that impresses people. Remembering as well, that true worship from the heart is a sweet fragrance to God. If we sing praises and mean this then this is genuine, and not false like singing words and hearts being so far away.
God would see a song out of tune as meaningful if the words to Him were true praise and being the true perfume to Him.
