    Chapter 18:

    Babylon represnts the satanic world system in all of its industrail, economic, and commercilism to contrast to what last-days apostate, religious forces symbolizes in Chapter 17.

    18:9,10
    The voices of the kings who are allied with Rome lament the fall of the mighty city.

    18: 11-20
    The voices of the merchants selfishly lament the loss on their comments and markets.

    Chapter 17

    V. 1 John is shown the Judgement close up.
    The Great harlotis babylon sybolic of the ancient city of Rome, a type of every idolatrous system opposed to christ. The many waters are the people groups over whom the harlot reigns.
    V.3 The scarlet beast is the beast that rose out of the sea (13:1). Its heads and horns symbolize the power of the empire which supports the harlot.

    Chapter 16
    1. God Himself commands the Final Judgment.
    V.2 The first judgment is similiar to the sixth Egyptian plaque.
    (see Ex. 9:9-11).
    V.3 This plaque is similiar to the first one in Egypt (Ex.7: 17-21).
    V.4 Unlike the Egyptian plaque, which only the waters of Egypt were affected, every sourse of Earth's fresh water supply is now affected,indicating complete judgment.
    V.6 God's judgement is retributive justice, of equal weight with the crime.

    Chapter 15:1-4

    Prepartion is made for the consumation of the Judgement with the introduction of seven angels who will empty the seven bowls ( 16: 1-21).

    While the seals and the trumpets picture partial judgements, the seven bowls picture judgments that are about to be consummated, and thus are the last.

    V.2 A sea of glass mingled with fire is suggestive of the deliverence of Israel at the Red Sea, with its waters reddened by the pillar of fire. ...

    Chapter 14
    The 144,000 represent the Jewish remnant sealed and spared from the Great Tribulation. The Lamb is Jesus Christ. Mount Zion, typical of the seat of kindom power in Jerusalem. The new song is a song of redemption which only the redeemded can understand.

    Verses 6,7 The gospel is everlasting, in contrast to the Old Covenant, and is intended to be heard universally. It is good news to those who respond to it, but judgement to those who refuse it.
