Can someone help me understand what is being said here

    Jay Dub wrote
    Romans 1:28
Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:

I am not talking about those saved

Are the verses saying that at some point in our disobedience, God walks away? That he leaves us in our sin?

The verse seem to be saying to me, that God walks with the un save protecting them from there own evil desires, maybe with convictions, but based on these two scriptures it would seem to me, that God eventually gives them over to their own evil desires

What does it mean God gave them up to the lusts of their own heart
Here is a small piece that Chuck Smith of Calvary Chapel wrote
Man's degradation, the downward spiral, can we observe it? You bet we can in the day in which we live. We see these very things of which Paul warned and spoke as man has sought to eliminate God from his mind, from his life, from our schools, the awareness the consciousness of God. We see the inevitable consequences in a society that is going deeper into the cesspool of immorality. We see the downward trend. Being filled with all unrighteousness, now they held the truth of God in unrighteousness, but now they don't even hold the truth of God anymore, God gave them over to reprobate minds and thus,
Would you not agree that this world we see every day is becoming more reprobate and refuses to retain God in their knowledge and God is letting them become reprobate (removed from God consciousness). Is this not what Paul is saying

I haven't been listening, but this is a parenthetical statement that started at v. 18 and ends on v. 32 - it is the parenthesis of what goes on with men in their evil sin nature "is revealed" is a past tense, and the passage is filled with past tenses, where sinful man is the recipient of
God's judgment, and it lists the most terrible things that the sin nature does - actually, the list in very inclusive - if you have committed a sin, it's probably in there - and it ends up with sinful man not only doing these things when he knows they are wrong, but encouraging others to do the same. It is not a future statement at all: it is a statement of the wrath of God having been revealed against the nature inherited from Adam.

The other end of the parenthesis starts in Romans 3, with vs. 3:10-18 again giving a list of behaviors, starting with the plainly stated facts that those following their suppressing unrighteous view of God never do seek Him or do good, so it takes a direct intervention of God's Spirit to change man into that nature which will seek Him and do good, which is spoken of later in the book, and in places starting in Romans chapter 3. Without God's grace intervening and changing man from the inside out, sinful man follows his warped views of God, viewed as like himself, beasts, and other things that should never be considered on an equal basis with the Creator - the creature trying to be equal to the Creator, as was Adam's sin, and all sin since then, which is, ultimately, idolatry - and follows his warped views of God to his doom.

Without the intervention of God not only presenting His truth inherently within man's heart and through His creation, which this passage shows is not enough, for the sinful nature warps that revelation, being warped itself, and God giving man to receive the right to be called his child, which we are taught is not of the will of man or the flesh in John 1:13, but of God, that such a nature is born, man will always follow his sinful nature into death.

That is what salvation by grace truly is: God reaching into sinful man while he is yet dead in his sins, and making him alive, so that he can see God as He truly is, and desire Him because of His great goodness and glory, and from that new nature, freely choose God.

Make sense? I didn't quote the passages other than John 1:13, but you who know the Word probably can go right to them.

    Love in Christ,

    Bill
